From JOE APU, Abidjan
D’Tigers coach Ayo Bakare has blamed indiscipline on the part of his
players for the poor run of Nigeria in the 2013 AfroBasket championship
where his team finished 7th, thus failing to pick a World championship
ticket.
Bakare who was close to tears after Nigeria’s last classification
game against Morocco lamented the attitude of his players pointing out
that there were cases of indiscipline that played out on the court.
“There’re issues that need to be taken care off because only talent
cannot take us to the promised land. The Nigeria Basketball Federation
has done a lot to get the team here and I must commend their efforts.
For the national team to get better, lots of issues need to be
addressed. We’re talking about commitment, dedication and discipline
here,” Bakare said.
The coach who was not happy despite the win against Morocco said he
was leaving Ivory Coast a sad man. Nigeria defeat Morocco 105 – 87
points to finish 7th place in the 16 teams that entered for the
AfroBasket 2013.
D’Tigers captain, Ike Diogu who finished the game against Morocco
with 31 points, 10 rebounds and 1 assist said it was an unfortunate
tournament for the team.
